Governance and Anti-Corruption

GBSI’s Governance unit focuses on regulatory compliance and reform and promoting accountability and transparency.   We focus on the policy and regulatory constraints to ensure the proper environment for entities to operate efficiently. We provide technical advice, strategic guidance, and support to public institutions, elected bodies, and citizens.

Legislative Strengthening: We work with legislative bodies on institutional reform and help them involve constituents and other important stakeholders in the policy-making process. We support such bodies to provide better, more responsive representation and help them spur economic growth and development by shaping laws, budgets, and relevant policies.

Decentralization and Local Governance: We work with local governments to improve their capacity for service delivery.  We work with national governments to show them the sense in transferring central authority to government bodies that are closer and more responsive to the needs of citizens.

Institutional and Policy Reform: The right policies and regulations are keys for development.  We help stakeholders improve the legal and regulatory environment, and build the capacity of government agencies in financial management, access to information, service delivery, local economic development, and public outreach.

Transparency and Accountability: We make it a point to design our programs to prevent corruption.  We build the mechanisms necessary to hold government institutions accountable to their citizens. We look to partner with governments, civil society, media outlets, and international organizations to keep corruption at bay, by focusing on areas like procurements which are prone to abuse. We support educational efforts and the creation of effective national anti-corruption strategies to stamp out corrupt practices.

Public Financial Management: We help countries improve public financial management and advance thought leadership on approaches to overcoming policy and institutional constraints to economic competitiveness, socioeconomic development, and poverty reduction. We assist governments to implement and enforce policies and procedures that hold officials accountable by building strong financial management systems including failsafe methods to detect and stamp out corruption. We offer tools such as preventive clauses in financial transactions to ward off corrupt actions.
